Depression is a mental health disorder that affects millions of people worldwide, and unfortunately, I am one of them. In this article, I would like to share my personal experience with depression, highlighting its impact on various aspects of my life. Living with depression is like being on an emotional rollercoaster. There is a constant feeling of sadness and emptiness that looms overhead, making it difficult to experience genuine joy or happiness. Lack of restorative sleep further contributes to the feeling of exhaustion and hampers the ability to function optimally in daily life.
Additionally, appetite changes are common with depression. Some individuals experience a significant decrease in appetite, leading to weight loss and nutritional deficiencies. On the other hand, others turn to food for comfort, resulting in weight gain and potential health issues. These physical changes further add to the distress caused by depression.
Recognizing and acknowledging the presence of depression is the first crucial step towards seeking help. For a long time, I was hesitant to open up about my struggles, fearing judgment and misunderstanding. However, with the support of loved ones and professional guidance, I found the courage to seek the help I needed.
Therapy, both individual and group sessions, played a pivotal role in my recovery journey. It provided a safe space to express my emotions, learn coping mechanisms, and gain valuable insights into my own thought patterns and behaviors. Additionally, medication prescribed by a psychiatrist helped stabilize my mood and manage the chemical imbalances associated with depression.

Living with depression is not easy, but it is possible to find hope and healing. By understanding the emotional and physical toll, recognizing the need for help, and seeking support, individuals can learn to navigate through the challenges of depression.
